2009 Von Mensch Schlachtfest

@ Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, Rockville Center

Traditionally, brothers of Von Mensch Lodge prepare the meal for the evening themself, a selection of of german sausages and kassler rippchen, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut as well as a hearty garden salad. And cook they did, it was impossible to try each item and go back for seconds at the Buffet style dinner. Delicious.

This has been my first visit to the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Rockville Center, and I was impressed with the collation/party room in the basement. Some 70-90 people attended the event, with brothers from at least six Lodges present. In traditional german fashion, the dancing really started after the meal was served and John Weber with his two-man band played all the favorite dance tunes.

Events like the Schlachtfest are great to bring extended family and friends for a good time out, so it was not surprising to see many non-masonic faces around the tables. Everyone had a geat time and enjoyed the camraderie, food and dancing.

It was so much fun, I am sure we will be here again next year.
