Allemania Lodge Kale Dinner

Saturday, January 17th 2009, it's a little frosty outside and we've had some snow over  the last few days. Perfect weather for Allemania's annual Kale Dinner. This year we decided the Plattduetsche Restaurant should cater the event for us. Senior Warden Knut Boyen reserved the Blue Room for us, with plenty of space for dancing, Gus and Band kept the assembled  crowd of 80 people swinging.

The invocation was addressed by the Grand Director of Ceremonies R.W. James Woerner. Many brothers from lodges around  the district took the opportunity to join us with their spouses or even brought the  entire family.

Kale is a traditional meal served either in the late fall or Winter, accompanied by  Pinklewurst, smoked pork and Speck. The Chef refused to part with his recipe, however  the waitsstaff was busy for a long time replenishing empty family-style platters. When I  checked around the room to see if people enjoyed their meal, I registered nothing but  compliments.

There were many laughs around the tables, the weather and economy forgotten for a few  hours of cameraderie, food, drink and dance. Plattduetsche Restaurant even invited us to  a round or two of Jaegermeisters, how could an evening get any better ? With the  crowning event of the evening: a raffle, with the top prize being a watercolor painting  donated by artist Astrid Boyen, our senior wardens wife.

The Allemania Kale Dinner was a huge success. We hope to see you for all our other events as well.
