2B1 ASK1

We usually do not approach people and ask them to become a mason, so to be one you have to ask one. Since you have already shown some interest by coming to our website, a first step is made...

Before you ask for a petition, how about we get to know each other first. There are several events thoughout the year were we invite the general public to get to know us or to participate in one of our charitable or community programs.

Events can include...

~ Blood Donor Drive

~ Brother Bring a Friend Night

~ Trauben Fest

~ Lodge Officers Installation Night

~ others

These events will be posted on our online calendar. Please contact a Lodge representative to let us know you are coming.

Please note, the petition has to be filled out in handwriting, not printed by typewriter or computer.

References should be people in good standing belonging to a masonic lodge.

What happens with my Petition?

The petition is usually presented to the Lodge by a Brother. We openly read the petition and ask the people given as references about the petitioner. This is a very harmless process and helps to establish some relationship between the petitioner and the Brothers given as references. A investigation committee is formed and the Petitioner will be contacted to arrange for an interview. Usually a committee for an interview consists of three brothers of the lodge. At a Lodge meeting after the interview the committee will report to the lodge of their assessment of the petitioner. A secret Ballot follows. The Petitioner will be contacted again to inform him of the outcome of his petition.

My Petition for membership was approved, am I now a Mason ?

Not yet. You will have to go through the Degrees of Masonry. There are only three degrees to make you a Master Mason.

I thought there are 32 or 33 degrees?

That is correct. However, the 4th to 32nd degrees are symbolic degrees only and do not represent further advancement. The 33rd Degree is bestowed upon Brothers of the Scottish Rite who have been outstanding representatives in community involvement. The highest Masonic Degree is the 3rd Degree of Master Mason.

Where can I get my Degrees?

We will lead you through the degrees, one at a time. Some studying of Masonic ritual is in order for you to advance through the degrees. The text of the rituals will be given to you by your Lodge Mentor/Sponsor.

I heard stories about the degrees, whats the deal with them ?

Most stories are based on fairy tales, so there is little truth to them. Each Degree represents a part of our Ritual and may take an hour to perform. During the ritual you will be asked to follow some basic instructions and to answer simple questions. No part of the ritual or Obligation which concludes each ritual will demand anything of you that conflicts with your loyalty to your country or religion.

Why are they secret ?

We keep our Rituals secret to preserve the "first impression" a candidate feels when experiencing the degrees. You could compare it with a book to movie conversion - if you really want to enjoy the book, dont watch the movie first.

You use a Bible, for the Oath of the Obligation, what if I am not a christian?

The Bible is referred to as the "Book of Sacret Law", which helps to include the books of all religions. It simply represents a link that we believe in a ever living and true god. If you belong to a different religious order, please inform us well in advance, so we can arrange for the propper book to be available for your degrees.

Masonry is not supposed to be elitare, but is it costly?

There is a Initiation Fee that has to be paid with your petition, it usually covers the cost of conferring the three degrees upon the candidate.

Then there is also the annual dues a brother has to pay, usually by January 31 for the current year. The amount of the dues differ from lodge to lodge.

We like to encourage active participation. Often there are certain costs that need to be covered for particular events and the participating brothers share the expanse.

Essentially, what you put in is what you get out.
