Like the wiki?

One minor piece of information from Grand Lodge that needs to be read by anyone editing a Lodge website in NY state ...

Notice for ALL Masonic Web Masters operating a

Masonic web site within the jurisdiction of the

Grand Lodge of New York, F. & A.M.

It is rather ironic that the link above is against the rules of compliance #6 on the website of the Grand Lodge. However, for the discussion and planning phase of website development I'll ignore that rule to make the information provided in the link immediatly available to all lodge brothers. (the alternative would be to copy the information which would break rule #10...) ~philipp

Pictures on the wiki: to keep the pages loading fast, I recommend to resize pictures. Like the one on the front page, the original is a 3000x1600 size picture of over 1MB space. Pictures need to be uploaded onto the site before they can be added to pages.

Note: when accessing the wiki from a mobile device such as a smart phone, not all formatting will be displayed correctly, but the content is all there.

Note from Werner Graba: Keep is Simple !!

Not comfortable yet to edit the wiki ? Use our "SandBox". a Sand Box is a page set up to show samples of editing/formatting options and can be used to practice. Good Luck.

Read the "manuel" to get all your questions answered.

Still having problems? Send an EMail to philippmerker@hotmail.com, I am usually available weeknight after 10.30pm, Saturdays all day, but may be running errands. In that case you can call me @ 1718-395-7812 just let it ring long enough.

Note: Navigating the website may be a bit hard for some brothers. I acknowledge and understand that collapsible sidebars can be confusing. Once we narrow down the main sections of the website we can place a navigation bar at the top and/or bottom of each section-index page. The sidebar could then be turned off - or something like that. Anyway, we'll improve navigation for the casual computer user. Once we start implementing changes, please give us some feedback so we can tweak them as needed.

We will be making a lot of updates and changes in April.

In order to keep your Email boxes free of clutter, I will be turning Email Notifications off on Tuesday March 30th 2009.

However, Notifications will be back at the end of May. There will be a short Tutorial to help you turn them off for your email address.

Until then, feel free to check back into this website whenever you like and watch the progress or help us make the website all it can be.

use comments here. the newest comment will be on top of the list, the oldest on the bottom
on private wiki pages we would be able to actually discuss ideas via comments without editing the actual wiki page

Nice Project when finished but can we update it fast enough? Looks like we need several people to be assigned to folders in the sidebar and be responsible for the updates. I can volunteer to proof read and edit it but updating is hard for one person only especially the newsletter, Gallery, etc.

thats the beauty of the wiki technology, all brothers could have access for editing. Aslo, some areas are specific to certain people, like minutes of meetings/ meeting notices, thats like leos main area, while the brotherhoood fund is my area. The wardens would be in charge of the events section and part of the calendar. Sickness and Distress can be edit by all brothers. We can have one section as you have seen, the officers folder - that can be restricted to just the Master and his choice of officers (like wardens, secretary and treasurer) even for reading. The actual editing of the wiki is really simple, as simple as using almost any text program.

changes to the wiki can be monitored and if someone happens top make a booboo, it's easily fixed

I finally dove in. Pretty cool, as easy as using Word. I think once some of the Brethren get the hang of it the content will grow nicely. It might be a good idea to go over some of the basics with the Brothers who use computers regularly if, for example, something like "re-sizing pictures" (compressing) sounds foreign or meaningless to anyone. If someone winds up in a digital dead-end, just post a question, one of us will help you through it. Until then, Prost! P.S. Thanks Phill, for getting this ball rolling...

Actually the Newest Comment will be on the bottom, but that order can be reversed. The Order atm is the most natural to read though.

Phil,
I think this is great, and for updating, the best you will find. A pro service will be costly, and difficult to update as much as this will be updated- also, you are down to one or two people who might be allowed to submit changes to a pro service.

Great job/

Carl

Philipp, I already left this comment in the Galleries area, but i will write it here also. You and Jeff did a fantastic job setting up this website and putting together the presentation. The site is easy to navigate and it looks like you've put a lot of time and effort into it. Great job!
